COVID-19 Vaccination Policy

As you are aware, Aotearoa New Zealand is currently in the grip of a serious COVID-19 outbreak. As an organisation and employer, Heart Kids NZ has obligations under the Health and Safety at Work Act 2015 to ensure, so far as is reasonably practicable, the health and safety of its workers, and also to ensure that the health and safety of others is not put at risk from work carried out by Heart Kids NZ workers.

Heart Kids NZ has conducted a health and safety risk assessment which has determined that, in their roles, Heart Kids NZ staff come into contact with a significant number of people. The work involves regular interaction with vulnerable people considered at higher risk of severe illness from COVID-19, such as people with underlying health conditions (specifically congenital and acquired childhood heart conditions). Having conducted its health and safety risk assessment, Heart Kids NZ has introduced a mandatory vaccination requirement for Heart Kids NZ workers. Effective 1 January 2022, all Heart Kids NZ workers must be fully vaccinated.

Heart Kids NZ's mandatory COVID-19 Vaccination Policy has implications for our members and volunteers. Effective 1 January 2022, all members and volunteers over 12 years of age attending Heart Kids NZ events will be required to provide evidence that they are fully vaccinated against COVID-19. Where practicable, Community Family Support-Taituarā will ensure unvaccinated members can join Murmurs Coffee Groups via Zoom so you can remain connected with our Heart Kids NZ community.

We appreciate this may be unsettling for some of you. However, Heart Kids NZ must take all care to ensure our staff are safe at work, and members are safe at events. Vaccination is one measure to help with this. Thank you for your cooperation in working with us to keep our staff and membership safe during these challenging days.
