In a couple of months time Colin Chapman will take off on one of the biggest challenges of his life. The Director of 360 Logistics, who are big sponsors of Heart Kids, will leave for Katmandu with three mates to take on the mighty Tenzing Everest Marathon.
This is no ordinary marathon. Even before reaching the start line, the group will have to trek for 14 days in the Himilayas just to get to base camp.
The Tenzing Hillary Everest Marathon criss crosses the high sherpa trails of Khumbu valley and celebrates the historical ascent on Mt. Everest by Late Tenzing Norgay Sherpa and Sir Edmund Hillary on 29th May 1953. Runners can take part in their desired categories 60 km Extreme Ultra, 42 km Full Marathon and 21 Km Half Marathon.
The idea of running the highest marathon in the world (18,000 feet above sea level) came to Colin after he successfully completed a lifelong dream of finishing one of the toughest multi sport events in the world, the Coast to Coast. It took him until the age of 46 to do it, but it is where he believes his love of mountain running and endurance events began, and still remains today.
The Everest Marathon is no walk in the park with the threat of avalanches, marauding Yaks and altitude sickness. But after five years of badgering his mates, Russell Simpson, Colin Thomson and Paul May will join Colin on this huge adventure.
Colin will also be raising money for Heart Kids along the way. “We take off on May 12th, with a few training events from now until then. But I know now, for me, being able to raise $250k for Heart Kids, will feel just as satisfying as crossing the finish line.” You can support Colin by making a donation to his fundraising page
We will keep you posted on Colin's progress.
